Mark Helsel
VP of PMO Capital Projects at AES
With more than 30 years of experience in the BioPharma Industry, Mark is a distinguished leader known for delivering large-scale complex capital projects across the biotech and pharmaceutical sectors. His expertise in integrating complex systems and managing large complex projects has been instrumental in advancing AES’s mission to provide innovative and efficient engineering solutions tailored to the life science industry.
At AES, Mark is responsible for overseeing the APW division and is involved in all facets of our numerous large CAPEX projects. Mark is often involved in the initial scoping, cost estimation, resourcing and ongoing oversight of execution from FEED through Turnover. His role as Head of PMO for APW involves streamlining processes, optimizing resource utilization, and enhancing the overall quality and speed of project execution. Mark’s leadership ensures that AES’s projects, which range from new facility builds to expansive upgrades, are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest standards of quality.
Before joining AES, Mark amassed significant experience at Genentech, where he held roles of increasing responsibility over 16 years. Starting as a Senior Automation Engineer / Automation Project Manager, Mark was the Technical Automation PM for the ECP1 Project, a greenfield design-build in Singapore. After the ECP1 Project, Mark took on roles of increasing impact first as Senior Manager of Automation and then later as Director of Resource Management in Global Engineering. He led teams in delivering projects that ranged from greenfield developments to the expansion of existing facilities at numerous Roche/Genentech sites.
Mark’s career spans prominent positions at Emerson Process Management and Yokogawa Corporation, where he managed and executed automation projects for a variety of large BioTech and Pharmaceutical clients, further solidifying his reputation as a top expert in the field.
