Position Summary

The Senior Electrical Designer will support the build of equipment for AES’s Original Equipment Manufacturer business. In addition to Automation Project Work. This position will participate in the design of electrical control panels, design of electrical assemblies. Additionally, this position will focus on supporting the assembly teams onsite at our San Diego facility by providing remote troubleshooting support for both existing and new equipment. The engineer will apply current Good Manufacturing Practices to improve AES’s existing designs, create new designs, and work with teams of engineers of varied skill levels to solve problem.

Responsibilities

  • Provide hands-on design, documentation, validation, and problem-solving of control panels and equipment.
  • PLC Controllers and IO Cards. Understand, initialize, design, validate, troubleshoot, repair and tune AC and DC drive systems.
  • Understand PID control logic (proportional–integral–derivative controller).
  • Develop electrical power and control systems that meet EMI and electrical safety compliance requirements and oversee compliance testing.
  • Conduct problem-solving when needed on current and new designs to meet quality, compliance and safety standards. Design to UL 508A standards and NFPA 70 Standards.
  • Understand and be able to design control panels to meet EMC emission requirements.
  • Develop, design, & test simple-to-complex automation systems for OEM manufacturing.
  • Work cross-functionally with other Engineers as needed for integration of electrical assemblies (e.g., cabinetry, instrumentation, enclosure design, etc.) to complete projects and tasks.
  • Create schematics, panel layout drawings, BOMs, ROHS document certification, UL, ETL, CE certificate of compliance and CE technical files.
  • Oversee review of product design engineering for compliance with engineering principles, organization standards, customer contract requirements, and related specifications.

Skills

  • Ability to read and understand electrical schematics and manufacturing drawings.
  • Ability to create and modify CAD drawings, proficient in AutoCAD Electrical is a must.
  • Creation and management of Bill of Materials (BOMs) and working within UL, ETL, CE/ROHS/REACH/WEEE standards.
  • Familiar with NEC and NFPA70 standards.
  • Ability to make and read P&IDs.
  • 3D Solid Modeling in AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or Inventor is a plus.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and problem solving skills. 
  • Ability to rapidly adapt and respond to changes in environment and priorities.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of applicable experience.
  • Experience in product development and commercialization design experience as an Electrical Instrumentation and Controls Designer.
