AES Partners with Valmed | Single-Use Biobags & Tubing

From 5 mL Biobags to 3,000 L Bag Systems: Single-Use Consumables Backed by AES Bioprocess Engineering

AES has entered a partnership with Valmed. Through this collaboration, AES now supplies Valmed's single-use consumables to biopharmaceutical manufacturers, alongside the bioprocess equipment and automation we already design and build.

The range covers 2D and 3D biobags, bag manifolds, and platinum-cured silicone tubing assemblies. Every product is manufactured in ISO-certified cleanrooms, gamma-sterilized, fully traceable, and validated against USP and ISO biocompatibility standards. Standard and custom configurations are available from R&D through commercial production.

Who is Valmed?

Valmed is an Italian manufacturer of medical devices and single-use systems, based in Tovo Sant'Agata in northern Italy. The company designs, develops, manufactures, and commercializes its products in-house, and adapts them to each customer's requirements.

Its experience spans bags for parenteral nutrition, blood treatment, drainage, and single-use bioprocessing. Valmed's single-use systems for the biopharmaceutical industry are sold under its Valbiopure brand, the range AES now supplies to its clients.

Why single-use matters in fluid handling

Every stainless transfer line or vessel that touches product has to be cleaned, validated, and verified between batches. Single-use assemblies arrive sterile and are discarded after use. That removes cleaning validation from the critical path, lowers cross-contamination risk between products, and shortens changeover time.

This matters most for multiproduct facilities, clinical-stage programs, and teams scaling a process quickly. The trade-off is supply: single-use only works if consumables arrive on time, in the right configuration, with documentation you can trust.

Sourcing them from the same partner who engineers your process means bags, manifolds, and tubing can be specified to fit your equipment and connections from the start.

Built on a five-layer film

The biobags use RENOLIT INFUFLEX 9101, a coextruded film with a polyethylene fluid-contact layer. Ultra-pure PE inner and outer layers keep the film inert, while an EVOH core provides a high oxygen barrier for oxygen-sensitive products.

Quality and compliance

Every product is gamma-irradiated at 25–40 kGy and produced under routine environmental monitoring, with full traceability and validation documentation.

Manufacturing takes place in ISO 7 cleanrooms, and every biobag is leak tested before it ships.

Adding Valmed consumables to the AES portfolio reflects how we approach every project: the right solution depends on the whole process, not a single piece of it. With equipment, automation, and single-use fluid handling from one partner, biotech teams get fewer handoffs, better-matched components, and a clearer path from R&D to commercial production.
